Auditorium Theatre 2019-2020 American Ballet Theatre

2 | AUDITORIUM THEATRE 2019-20 | March 10 - May 5, 2020 Welcome to the Auditorium Theatre! Thank you for joining us as we continue our 130 th anniversary season. 2020 has gotten off to a great start. First, we celebrated the 15 th anniversary of one of our signature productions, Too Hot to Handel: The Jazz-Gospel Messiah , which helped kick off the City of Chicago’s Year of Chicago Music. We also explored the world of lions, tigers, and cougars with a thrilling presentation by award-winning National Geographic photographer Steve Winter . Trinity Irish Dance Company’s high-energy performances on Leap Day and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s stunning March engagement reminded us why the Auditorium is the best venue in the city for dance (and we’re not alone in thinking that — readers of the Chicago Reader and Better magazine also bestowed that distinction upon us within the past year!). We are excited to continue our 2019-20 Season with two exhilarating National Geographic Live speaker events. On March 10, biological anthropologist Cheryl Knott and her husband, photojournalist Tim Laman , bring us along on their Adventures Among Orangutans as they share what they’ve learned after years of observing these endangered animals with whom we share 97% of our DNA. And on May 5, we’ll travel the depths of the ocean with photographer Brian Skerry , known for his incredible images of sharks, whales, and other marine life. We are thrilled to welcome our Visiting Resident Company American Ballet Theatre back to the theatre for five performances from March 19-22. The company will showcase why they truly are America’s National Ballet Company ® , bringing the best of classic and contemporary ballet to our stage as they celebrate their 80 th anniversary. We hope you’ll return to the Auditorium in June, when we close out this special anniversary season by highlighting some incredible Chicago dance with Giordano Dance Chicago and bringing one of the world’s best ballet companies, the Bolshoi Ballet , back to Chicago for the first time in 16 years.
