Ceremony is Friday, January 24. Botanical Drawing 1 Strong drawing is the cornerstone of botan- ical art. In this class, we will work in pencil, covering the fundamentals of proportions, line, tone, dimensionality, and expression. We will work from live specimens, flowers, seeds, and fruit. You will work primarily in pencil and experiment with different tools to achieve particular textures and effects. A supply list will be sent. Prerequisite: Botanical Drawing 1 and 2 or equivalent. Each session will progress to a more controlled “found” finish. There will be a strong emphasis on values and design. A supply list will be sent. Prerequisite: Watercolor 1 or equivalent. Color and Ink Expand your enjoyment of pen and ink by incorporating colored ink, applied as a wash or using the stippling technique. You will build on your own light graphite drawing with crow quill or brush work. Explore different effects with emphasis on control and richness. A sup- ply list will be sent. It is appropriate to all botanical subjects and landscapes. Working on various papers with different black pigments applied with both brushes and pencils, we will focus on botan- icals. Drawing Nature Seedpods Capture nature’s pods using graphite and colored pencil. These media can be used alone or together to explore the subtle colors found in a variety of pods. Color theory and com- position will be considered to create striking finished drawings. Some experience in colored pencil preferred. A supply list will be sent. Botanical Art Orchid Workshop Learn about the orchid’s beautiful, unique, and diverse morphological features, flower structure, and habitat. Apply this botanical knowledge and artist instruction to accurately and strikingly depict live specimens in the me- dia of your choice. You will explore the Orchid Show for inspiration. The School’s CEUs=18 hours ART elective Claudia Lane, freelance artist $359/$449 | Design Studio, Regenstein Center Friday – Sunday, March 6 – 8, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Color Mixing Learn to mix accurate, exciting color including the vivid, specific hues of flowers, the bright and subdued greens of leaves, and the deep, subtle colors in shadows. You will make charts for permanent reference and then apply this knowledge as you paint flowers and leaves from live specimens. You will work in watercol- or, but exercises apply to all media. Watercolor Floral Still Life Paint in the studio from life to capture the freshness, colors, and beauty of selected flowers. Explore a looser, painterly fashion with emphasis on composition, color, and values. Still life allows you to achieve your desired outcome by controlling many of the external factors.
