fpdcc.com Although the winter months may not be the most obvious time of year to explore the Forest Preserves of Cook County, this season provides unique opportunities to enjoy outdoor recreation and learn about the natural areas that surround us. Throughout this guide, you will find programs, events and ideas on how to get out experience winter fun. Consider a guided walk at one of our six nature centers or borrow some snowshoes to try something new. Rent skis, take a lesson, then explore miles of groomed cross-country ski trails surrounding Sagawau Environmental Learning Center. You can also enjoy ice fishing, ice skating, sledding and winter camping in locations all across your Forest Preserves. Interested in learning more about local nature in winter? Join our naturalists for programs about the birds that remain during colder months or how to identify trees without their leaves. And for those of you who want to get even more involved with the Preserves, consider joining our community of dedicated volunteers for restoration stewardship throughout the season.
