Forest Preserves of Cook County 2023 Fall Brochure

fpdcc.com Fall is the perfect time to visit the Forest Preserves of Cook County. Throughout our nearly 70,000 acres, visitors will be treated to dazzling colors in our forest canopy, an array of native and migrating birds, stunning late-blooming wildflowers, and cooler temperatures to enjoy while exploring. If you’re looking for a way to give back to your community, consider volunteering in the Forest Preserves this season. This year marks the 30th anniversary of National Public Lands Day—celebrated annually on the fourth Saturday in September—and what better way to honor our natural lands than by helping to restore them to good health. Find information about volunteering at fpdcc.com/ volunteer. And if you’re new to volunteering, consider attending a new volunteer workday in October to learn about invasive plant species and seed collecting. Find details on page 6. Throughout this guide, you’ll also find plenty of fun and relaxing programs and events this autumn. You can join our naturalists and programming teams for guided fall color walks and bird migration hikes, pumpkin decorating, Halloween and fall festivities, and so much more. Whether you’re a long-time visitor or a first-time explorer, you can create your own adventure in your Forest Preserves. I hope to see you in the Preserves!
