Forest Preserves of Cook County 2023 Summer Brochure

fpdcc.com With warmer weather and longer days, summer provides endless opportunities to get out and explore the Forest Preserves of Cook County’s nearly 70,000 acres of wild and wonderful. Use this guide as inspiration as you plan self-guided or naturalist-led nature outings throughout the season. A quintessential summer experience is camping. Nothing compares to spending a night under the stars, falling asleep to a gentle chorus of insects, and waking up to happily chirping songbirds. In your Forest Preserves, you can choose from five campgrounds offering accommodations that range from tent sites to three-season cabins and even bunkhouses for larger groups. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, registered campers at most locations can join in on guided programs during the weekends. And for those who have never been camping before, be sure to check out our gear rental options and free Camping 101 workshops to learn camping basics. There are plenty of other ways to enjoy summer in the Preserves: paddling local waterways, walking or biking hundreds of miles of trails, fishing along shorelines, or simply enjoying the peace and serenity of lush scenery. Whatever way you choose to explore nature, we hope to see you in the Forest Preserves! Toni Preckwinkle President, Forest Preserves of Cook County
