FESTIVAL CONNECT EXPANDS FOR THE 80TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON!
The Grant Park Music Festival’s comprehensive music education and engagement
initiative, Festival Connect, continues to expand for the 2014 Season. Festival
Connect aims to foster a diverse participation in the arts for audiences of all ages.
This summer, music lovers will have a chance to hear the Grant Park
Orchestra and Chorus, the Festival’s Project Inclusion string quartet,
and Apprentice Chorale at a variety of unique and historic settings
this summer, as part of a partnership with the Chicago Park District
and their Night Out in the Parks program.
CLASSICS IN THE PARKS WITH THE
GRANT PARK ORCHESTRA AND CHORUS
Led by guest conductor Mei-Ann Chen, the Grant
Park Orchestra performs Holst’s beloved orchestral
suite
The Planets
at the South Shore Cultural
Center on Friday, July 11 at 6:30PM. Christopher
Bell and the Grant Park Chorus bring a program
of a cappella music to two Chicago Park District
facilities: the South Shore Cultural Center on
Thursday, July 17 at 7 p.m. and the Columbus Park Refectory on Sunday, July 20 at
3 p.m.
PROJECT INCLUSION
Promising young career professionals are selected
to perform with the Grant Park Orchestra, receive
one-on-one mentoring, and play chamber
concerts in community venues. This two year
orchestra fellowship program is a collaboration
with the Chicago Sinfonietta.
APPRENTICE CHORALE
Founded by Chorus Director Christopher Bell,
this advanced training program provides pre-
professional vocal students from DePaul and
Roosevelt Universities the opportunity to perform
with the Grant Park Chorus in Millennium Park and
in several community venues.
