WELCOME
HARRIS THEATER FOR MUSIC AND DANCE
X
Dear Friends:
Welcome to the
2014–2015 Harris Theater
season. All of us at the Harris are thrilled to
share with you the exciting performances, partnerships, and innovations that begin the
Harris Theater’s second decade, a decade that promises to be even more significant than
the last.
This fall, you can expect to see some of the most sought-after national and international
sensations performing today. The
Beijing Dance Theater
of China starts 2014–2015
with the company’s Chicago debut; Israeli pianist and Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient
Inon Barnatan
performs in a solo recital concert—his first solo recital in Chicago; the
Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center
begins its second three-year artistic residency
with an expanded five-concert series; and in December, Maestro
Gianandrea Noseda
and
the Turin, Italy-based opera house
Teatro Regio Torino
launches its
first-ever North
American tour at the Harris
, giving Chicagoans an exclusive opportunity to witness this
historic debut before anyone else. We are also pleased to introduce
Beyond the Aria
,
a new series of intimate and unscripted performances produced by Harris Theater in
a unique first-time collaboration with
Lyric Unlimited
, on the Pritzker Pavilion Stage
at Millennium Park. Harris Theater has named
Craig Terry
the
Beyond the Aria
Artistic
Director to lead this series; he is also Music Director of Lyric’s Ryan Opera Center.
These and other offerings throughout 2014–2015 embody a critical component of
our mission: to bring the best of the world to Chicago audiences, boosting our city’s
international reputation as a premier cultural institution. As such, we have embarked on
yet another important part of our future that will usher us into a new era.
Imagine: The Campaign for Harris Theater
is in full swing. Since launching in October
2013, and thanks to the tremendous support of our patrons, the Theater’s latest
fundraising effort has exceeded the halfway point toward the $38.8 million goal,
establishing a transformational endeavor. In 2015 the Harris will begin a significant
renovation plan to improve Theater access throughout the building and to build the
future of the performing arts in Chicago. The Harris will remain open during the
entirety of the project with no interruption to our performances. We aim to provide
you, our audience, with a venue that remains uniquely accessible, with an unmatched
atmosphere that will make the Harris experience truly unforgettable.
This would not be possible without your commitment to our vision during this exciting
new chapter of our history.
Sincerely,
Michael Tiknis
