Self-described as “groove- punk,” the quintet features a sound reminiscent of Arctic Monkeys, The Killers, and The Kooks. With their introspective songwriting, groovy riffs, and expressive arrangements, Scorched Waves offers a unique blend of indie and alter- native rock, post-punk, and pop punk. They were Grand Champions of the 2023 Bitter Jester Music Festival here in Highland Park (out of 24 groups in the “battle of the bands”), where keyboardist Jaren Wojcik won Instrumentalist of the Year honors and Damian Kessler split the Drummer of the Year laurels. Scorched Waves most recently earned the runner-up trophy at Bitter Jester after receiving an honorable mention as the third-place band in 2022, making them the only band in the festival’s two-decade history to have achieved the full trifecta of finishes over three years in a row. They recently opened for Ax and the Hatchetmen and for Wheatus, and they perform regularly around the Midwest. Scorched Wavesis making their Ravinia debut.
