Paeans INTHE Pavilion THE CH I CAGO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA moves to its summer home this month for its 89th season at the Ravinia Festival. The 2025 residency features Ravinia Chief Conductor Marin Alsop’s culinary-themed Breaking Barriers 2025, co-curated by the conductor and Food Network star Molly Yeh; Alsop also conducts performances this summer that feature pianists Bruce Liu and Jean-Yves Thibaudet; recent compositions by Carlos Simon and Jessie Montgomery; a special performance by Broadway stars Sutton Foster and Kelli O’Hara; Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring ; Tchaikovsky’s “Pathétique” Symphony; Mahler’s “Resurrection” Symphony with soloists Janai Brugger and Sasha Cooke; and Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony on a program that also features 13-year-old violin prodigy Himari, following an Alsop- led performance with the Philadelphia Orchestra on New Year’s Eve last year. Guest conductors leading the CSO this summer are Edwin Outwater, Martin Gellner, Laura Jackson, Lidiya Yankovskaya, Louis Langrée, Peter Oundjian, and David Robertson, with a starry lineup of soloists that includes singer-songwriter Beck; Broadway and Hollywood vocalist Cynthia Erivo; pianists Lang Lang, Garrick Ohlsson, and Nobuyuki Tsujii; cellists Zlatomir Fung and Sheku Kanneh-Mason; and violinist Ray Chen.
