ANA MARÍA MARTÍNEZ Grammy Award-winning soprano Ana María Martínez has captivated audiences worldwide with her artistry and versatility, portraying a diverse lineup of opera’s leading ladies. The 2024/25 season saw her star at Los Angeles Opera as Margarita Xirgu in Osvaldo Golijov’s Ainadamar and as Despina in Mozart’s Così fan tutte . She also made her house debut with Pittsburgh Opera in the title role of Puccini’s Tosca and returned to Houston Grand Opera for a cameo appearance in West Side Story . The 2023/24 season saw Martínez return to the stage of Opera Philadelphia as Maria Boccanegra/ Amelia in Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra. She also returned to Los Angeles Opera for her role de- but as Catrina in Gabriela Lena Frank’s El Últi- mo Sueño de Frida y Diego , as well as to Grand Tetons Music Festival to reprise her iconic Cio- Cio San in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly . A cel- ebrated interpreter on the stage, Martínez has sung several leading roles at the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House, Vienna Staatsoper, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and San Francisco Op- era. Recent highlights at the Lyric have included Donna Elvira in a new production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni and her role debut as Desdemona in Verdi’s Otello , joining such credits as Mimi in Puccini’s La bohème , Nedda in Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci , and Marguerite in Gounod’s Faust . Her repertoire also includes both Micaëla and the title role of Bizet’s Carmen , the title role of Dvořák’s Rusalka , and both Rosalba and the title role of Catán’s Florencia en el Amazonas , among many others. Martínez’s distinguished career includes several collaborations with Plácido Do- mingo and Andrea Bocelli, as well as concerts with the New York Philharmonic and both the Berlin Philharmonic and La Scala orchestra with Gustavo Dudamel. Originally from Puer- to Rico, Martínez earned her degrees from The Juilliard School and is an alumna of the Houston Grand Opera Studio. As the inaugural Artistic Advisor at Houston Grand Opera and a voice professor at Rice University, Martínez continues to inspire emerging artists. Beyond performing, Martínez has been a contributor to Classical Singer magazine and Latino Wisdom by Cathy Areu. Ana María Martínez made her Ravinia debut on the 2007 gala concert and returned in 2010 as Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte .
