CHI-YUAN LIN Born in Taoyuan, Taiwan, Chi-Yuan Lin is the Taki Alsop Conducting Fellow for – and has been the conductor at the Ryan Opera Cen- ter of Lyric Opera of Chicago—the second-ev- er artist appointed to the prestigious training program—for the past two seasons. She was also recently appointed music director of the Friday Morning Music Club’s Avanti Orches- tra in Washington, DC, beginning with the – season. Across this season at the Lyric, Lin served on the music sta s for productions of Cherubini’s Medea , the double-bill of Ma- cagnia’s Cavalleria rusticana and Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci , Strauss’s Salome , and Puccini’s Mad- ama Butter y , as well as a concert performance of Or ’s Carmina burana , having worked on the new-to-Chicago production of Beethoven’s Fidelio . Last summer, she served as associate conductor for Wagner’s e Flying Dutchman at Des Moines Metro Opera as well as a member of the music sta for the company’s Apprentice Artist Program. Recent season highlights have also included conducting Mozart’s e Magic Flute at the Bergen National Opera Summer Academy in Norway; covering performances by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Richmond Symphony Orchestra, Hartford Symphony Or- chestra, and São Paulo Symphony Orchestra; participating in the Fiskars Summer Festival in Finland and the Aspen Music Festival Con- ducting Fellowship program; and leading the Symphony Orchestra of Hamburg’s University of Music and Drama. She has also collaborated with the Taiwan National Symphony Orches- tra’s educational program, working closely with youth musicians and emerging artists. She re- ceived her master’s and bachelor’s degrees from National Taiwan Normal University and is cur- rently pursuing a doctor of musical arts degree in orchestral conducting at the Peabody Insti- tute of Johns Hopkins University. In , she released her fourth solo album, Night Reign , which received a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Jazz Album, while its lead single, “Raat Ki Rani,” was nominated for Best Global Music Performance. A ab has performed at major international festivals including Prima- vera Sound, Glastonbury, and Coachella, and has collaborated with such ensembles as the Metropole Orkest. She has appeared on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts , e Late Show with Stephen Colbert , and Lat- er… with Jools Holland , and has earned critical praise in the New York Times , e Guardian , Pitchfork , Rolling Stone , and the Financial Times .
