His music career be- gan in when he featured on Dr. Dre’s solo debut, “Deep Cover” (the title track to the Bill Duke lm), and then on Dre’s rst solo album, e Chronic . Snoop’s own rst solo album, Dog- gystyle (produced by Dre), was released in on Death Row Records, debuting at number one on both the Billboard and R&B/Hip- Hop Albums charts. Selling almost a million copies in the rst week of its release, Doggystyle was certi ed quadruple Platinum in less than a year and spawned several hit singles, including “What’s My Name?” and “Gin & Juice.” Later in , Snoop followed up not with a new studio recording but the soundtrack for his rst lm, the short Murder Was the Case . His next two studio albums— ’s a Doggfather and ’s Da Game Is to Be Sold, Not to Be Told —both debuted at number one on both charts again, and both went dou- ble Platinum within a year. e latter, in addition to spawning the hit “Still a G ang,” marked his transition to No Limit Records, where he also recorded No Limit Top Dogg ( ) and a Last Meal ( ). Snoop began appearing in more movies, documentaries, and TV shows around this same time, including ’s Oscar-winning Training Day , which earned him an MTV Movie Award for Best Cameo. A er releasing ’s Paid tha Cost to Be da Boss (including the Platinum single “Beautiful”) on Capitol, Snoop signed with Ge en for his next three albums: ’s R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta): e Masterpiece (including the number-one hit “Drop it Like It’s Hot”), ’s a Blue Carpet Treatment , and ’s Ego Trippin’ (including the Platinum single “Sensual Seduction”). He returned to Capitol for ’s Malice n Wonderland and ’s Doggumentary , then, in , released the reggae album Reincarnated as Snoop Lion. ( ), and this April’s Til’ Midnight and accompa- nying lm. Snoop Dogg is making his Ravinia debut. STEVEN ISSERLIS British cellist Steven Isserlis enjoys an interna- tional career as a soloist, chamber musician, author, educator, and broadcaster. Equally at home in music from the Baroque to the present day, he performs with the world’s greatest or- chestras, including period ensembles, and has given many world premieres, including Sir John Tavener’s e Protecting Veil , omas Adès’s Lieux retrouvés , four works for solo cello by György Kurtág, and pieces by Heinz Holliger, Jörg Widmann, Olli Mustonen, Mikhail Plet- nev, and many others. Isserlis’s vast discography includes most of the cello repertoire, including the J.S. Bach suites (named Instrumental Album of the Year by Gramophone ), Beethoven’s com- plete works for cello and piano, and the Brahms double concerto with Joshua Bell and the Acad- emy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields. He has received two Grammy nominations, for his recordings of Haydn’s cello concertos and of Martinů’s cello sonatas with Mustonen. Premiere recordings include the BBC Music Magazine award win- ning No Longer Mourn for Me , featuring late works by Tavener. His latest recordings— Men- delssohn Piano Trios with Joshua Bell and Jer- emy Denk, and Music of the Angels featuring Boccherini cello concertos, sonatas, and quin- tets—were released in . As an author, Isser- lis’s latest book is a critically acclaimed compan- ion to the Bach cello suites, while his two books for children about music have been translated into many languages. He has also authored a commentary on Schumann’s famous Advice for Young Musicians . As a broadcaster, Isserlis has written and presented two in-depth documen- taries for BBC Radio, on Robert Schumann and Harpo Marx. An insightful musical explorer and curator, Isserlis has programmed imagi- native series for London’s Wigmore Hall, New York’s Y, and the Salzburg Festival. Unusual- ly, he also conducts orchestras from the cello, including the Lucerne Symphony in with Radu Lupu in his nal public performance. Since , Isserlis has been Artistic Director of the International Musicians Seminar at Prussia Cove in Cornwall.
