According to the introduction, nearly , recipes were submitted for con- sideration, with making the cut a er being tested—twice! Dedicated to Ravinia—“a summer place that warms our hearts through all of the seasons,” an inscription reads—the book is still available for purchase today in the Ravinia Festival Shop. e goal of its sales, the introduction shares, is to “help ensure the Festival’s bright and ever-broadening future” by touching on the “Ravinia experience” full of “trees etched against a golden sunset; the scent of the hydrangeas; a thou- sand twinkling lights under a fan-shaped roof that oats in the night; a velvet-green carpet of lawn speckled with warm summer colors; picnic baskets, candlelight; and the radiant faces as far as the eye can see, engrossed in the unique pleasure of a Ravinia evening.” ( ) ½ ( ) butter ½ confectioners sugar our ( ) egg, beaten ¾ sugar ½ butter lemon juice Rind of lemon, grated Confectioners sugar to dust 1.
