2018 Grant Park Music Festival |

15

EVERYONE IS INVITED TO

THE GRANT PARK MUSIC

FESTIVAL’S ANNUAL

INDEPENDENCE DAY SALUTE!

Each year, conductor

Christopher Bell puts on the

greatest show in town with a

program full of rousing marches

and patriotic anthems, including

Tchaikovsky’s

1812 Overture

,

Sousa’s

Stars and Stripes Foreve

r

and the

Armed Forces Salute

.

This year, the Festival welcomes

piano prodigy and Rockford native Emily Bear to join the festivities,

playing George Gershwin’s

Rhapsody in Blue

with the orchestra.

To describe Emily as “a talented young musician” would be an

understatement. Just 16 years of age, she has already recorded seven

albums spanning the classical, jazz, and Broadway music genres;

composed hundreds of original musical pieces; and performed on piano

at the White House and many world-famous music venues including

Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and the

Hollywood Bowl.

Rhapsody in Blue

is one of my favorite

pieces to play on the piano,” she says. “It

revolutionized music. Gershwin took the

Broadway style, the jazz style, the classical

style, and mixed them all together and created

this huge incredible piece.”

So dress in your favorite red, white and blue

gear and head to the Jay Pritzker Pavilion

for one of the most popular concerts in

Millennium Park each season. Pack a picnic,

stay on the lawn, or sit in a reserved seat close

to the stage. Because nothing says summer

in Chicago more than the Grant Park Music

Festival on July 4!
