AUDITORIUM THEATRE 2014-2015
| OCTOBER 3 - NOVEMBER 29
Dear Anniversary Celebrant:
Welcome to the 125
th
season at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University! There has been so much
excitement and preparation for this milestone season that it is hard to believe it has finally arrived. We
are pleased you have decided to join us in the celebration by attending this performance.
In the long, storied history of this grand old building, we estimate over 20,000,000 people have done
the same thing you are doing tonight; witnessed spectacular artistry upon our landmark stage. That’s a
lot of people! They have been, and continue to be, representative of all walks of life without regard for
social status or the neighborhood from whence they came.
You see, when Ferdinand Peck envisioned this glorious hall and commissioned Louis Sullivan and
Dankmar Adler to build it, Ferdinand insisted it be a theatre for everyone. From the poorest to the most
affluent. From working class to Presidents. From long-time Chicagoans to newly arrived immigrants. The
Auditorium Theatre was built to be the people’s theatre and that long history is one we are proud to con-
tinue to this day.
Just look at the programming included in this historic season. You can see performances from
America’s best: The Joffrey Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Dance Theatre of Harlem and Alvin Ailey
American Dance Theater. We have companies from South America like Tango Buenos Aries and Grupo
Corpo. The finest in European culture arrives with London’s Royal Ballet. And we lift Chicago’s own artists
to new heights with our “Made in Chicago” Dance Series and “Made in Chicago” Music Series. Nowhere
else in this marvelous city will you find the breadth and diversity of programming that you will find at the
Auditorium. That has been our mission for 125 years. That will continue to be our mission for the next 125
years.
This fall, Mayor Emanuel has honored the Auditorium with an inaugural Fifth Star Award. In his words,
the winners of this award are those individuals and organizations that are worthy of adding a fifth star
to Chicago’s flag. We want to take this opportunity to thank the Mayor for recognizing us in this way. As
the first, and to date, only theatre in the city to be so recognized, we are humbled and honored to accept
this award with the promise we will continue to be worthy of such accolades as we go forth into the next
century of fine performances, enlightening educational programs and magnificent architectural splendor.
Thank you, Mr. Mayor.
We hope you enjoy tonight’s performance. Come back often during this 125
th
anniversary season. We
have much to celebrate and much to share with you, our loyal patrons.
