families, resulting in unimaginable generosity across a wide
cross-section of focus areas including: health and human
services, education, arts and culture, civic awareness, and
the environment.
Since their first charitable donation in 1917, Boeing has
sought to bring innovation and new thinking to the business
challenges they face while making valuable contributions
to society. Now, with more than 168,000 people across the
United States and in more than 65 countries, their opportu-
nity to make a positive impact in communities is greater than
ever before.
But while the company’s impact on the surrounding
world is simply staggering, their local efforts, particularly
those that have assisted us at the Auditorium Theatre, are
equally impressive. The Boeing Company was instrumental
in the overwhelming success of some of the Auditorium
Theatre’s most ambitious and acclaimed programming over
the last several years, such as: our co-production of the epic
opera, “Margaret Garner,” in 2008; our “Miles Davis Festival”
in 2010; and our “Music and Movement Festival” in 2013.
Boeing’s support for the arts and the humanities cen-
ters on efforts that encourage our global communities
to participate in and create cultural experiences that can
broaden their perspectives, cultivate their creativity and
prepare them to resolve the complexities of tomorrow and
beyond. It is appropriate then, that the Boeing Company is
the Auditorium Theatre’s “Made in Chicago Dance Series”
Sponsor for our 125
th
anniversary season. Featuring Thodos
Dance Chicago, Giordano Dance Chicago, River North
Dance Chicago, and the “Chicago Rhythm Fest,” this eclec-
tic assortment of companies will showcase the dynamic
breadth of talent that saturates this world-class city.
In addition to the exceptional quality of both our “Made
in Chicago Dance Series” and the entire 2014-2015 season,
the lineup that will grace our stage throughout the next nine
months is considerably diverse and represents a fascinating
blend of styles and cultures. The Auditorium Theatre and
the Boeing Company share a commitment to multicultur-
alism (and indeed, “Diversity and Inclusion” are among
Boeing’s core values), and both organizations adamantly
believe that greater inclusivity helps promote environments
of understanding, tolerance, compassion, and creativity.
However, as grateful as we are for the Boeing Company’s
unwavering kindness, we are especially humbled by their
vision and their ongoing dedication to helping transform the
world that we share. The Boeing Company understands the
essentialness of encouraging cultural opportunities through-
out our communities, and this passion for innovation, cre-
ativity, and change augurs well for the future of Chicago. We
thank them for their tremendous support, for their generosi-
ty, and for helping not only the artistic and cultural initiatives
of the Auditorium Theatre, but those of so many esteemed
cultural institutions, soar to new and dizzying heights.
